Somebody in the 169th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Jalyx Hunt, the No. 128 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Holani proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Payton Wilson at the 41st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jaylen Wright in slot 84, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Devontez Walker at pick 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Roger Rosengarten at the 91st pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Malik Mustapha at safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
Somehow Jarrian Jones was still sitting there in No. 144, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Magee in slot 160 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jalyx Hunt in pick No. 169 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Javontae Jean-Baptiste went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 27. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Trey Taylor enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
This one needs a full-page explanation: George Holani in the 245th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
