The Dolphins torched the value chart for Eric Gentry, taking him 114 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Golday. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 1 slot with a little surplus value in Sonny Styles. A need, and now a little less of one.
In slot 30 they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Emmanuel Pregnon in the 43rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Max Iheanachor at Round 2, Pick 17 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ted Hurst at pick No. 84 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Trigg in No. 87 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Sam Roush in the 95th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in slot 96, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Connor Lew in pick No. 97, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Jake Golday at the 120th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah World in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Travis Burke in Round 5, Pick 11 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Drew Allar in No. 160 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taylen Green at pick 163 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Domani Jackson in pick 188. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jeff Caldwell in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Eric Gentry at the 238th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
