Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Jake Golday, the No. 62 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 94. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in pick No. 43. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Keionte Scott here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jake Golday at No. 94 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A safety of that caliber at the 126th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A quiet steal in pick 160: Charles Demmings for less than the market said. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They will replay Jeff Caldwell at the 220th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, John Michael Gyllenborg at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Robert Spears-Jennings in slot 236 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Eli Heidenreich in pick 238 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nolan Rucci. The roster fit checks out.
