Miami Dolphins

Nobody dealt better than the Dolphins this weekend: B.

The Dolphins did not so much draft Eric Gentry as overpay for him, 125 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Lew value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Carnell Tate · WR · rank 12
In the 12th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Ted Hurst in No. 43 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Dani Dennis-Sutton · DE-EDGE · rank 85
Dani Dennis-Sutton at the 47th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 96
They reached into another round for Bryce Lance, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Sam Roush · TE · rank 94
They took Sam Roush at par in slot 87, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 117
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Trigg in pick No. 92, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 148
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Reiger well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.32 · Pick 96 · Jalen Farmer · OG · rank 109
They went early on Jalen Farmer in the 96th pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Connor Lew · C · rank 84
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at Round 4, Pick 12. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 147
They paid a round early for Isaiah World in slot 130, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 159
A premium they did not need to pay, Marlin Klein a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.16 · Pick 156 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 163
Demond Claiborne in pick 156 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Travis Burke · OT · rank 172
They paid sticker price for Travis Burke in No. 171, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 192
They jumped the gun on Jeff Caldwell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.7 · Pick 188 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 178
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 7: Domani Jackson for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
Value said wait; Eric Gentry in pick 227 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Adam Randall · RB · rank 276
Adam Randall at the 238th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Micah Morris · OG · rank 322
Micah Morris in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
R7.33 · Pick 249 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 257
Jack Kelly in pick No. 249 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.38 · Pick 254 · Shamar Easter · TE · rank 297
A big swing on Shamar Easter at slot 254, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
