You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Eric Gentry in Round 7, Pick 25. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Lane pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
They liked Emmanuel Pregnon enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 30. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Chase Bisontis at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Jake Slaughter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in the 86th pick: Mike Washington Jr. for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Eli Stowers at slot 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Keionte Scott in No. 90 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Connor Lew slipping to the 94th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah World this early at pick 112. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 123, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Trigg is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Travis Burke in slot 129, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

They reached into another round for Eli Heidenreich, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
