If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Eric Gentry at the 227th overall pick is 128 spots clear of where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Bisontis at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The veteran additions, Tyler Guyton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot.
In the 31st overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ted Hurst at slot 69 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chase Bisontis at pick 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Michael Trigg at Round 4, Pick 30. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Dametrious Crownover at par in No. 147, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
DeMonte Capehart in the 151st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Demmings at pick 152, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Tanner Koziol in Round 5, Pick 14; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Travis Burke in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Domani Jackson in pick No. 165, more than the board wanted. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They liked Ephesians Prysock enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 177. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeff Caldwell a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than VJ Payne at No. 187, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pat Coogan in No. 209 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaren Kanak well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Lander Barton in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.

Eli Heidenreich at slot 238 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Enrique Cruz Jr.. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
