Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins bled value on every deal, hence the C+.

Future A+

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 106 spots for Eric Gentry, and value like that does not grow back.

Landing Golday that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Markel Bell · OT · rank 115
In pick No. 30 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 88
Ted Hurst at the 47th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 96
Bryce Lance at the 75th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 64
The board fumbled Keionte Scott all the way to Round 3, Pick 23, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
Value said wait; Drew Allar in pick 91 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.29 · Pick 93 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 191
A real head-scratcher, Taylen Green in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 117
They reached a country mile for Michael Trigg at pick No. 94, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Jalen Farmer · OG · rank 109
A clean, defensible pick in pick 112 with a little surplus value in Jalen Farmer. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 62
Circle this one: Jake Golday at No. 115 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 147
Good price on Isaiah World in Round 5, Pick 11, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.16 · Pick 156 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 145
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dametrious Crownover at the 156th pick is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.25 · Pick 165 · Travis Burke · OT · rank 173
They jumped the gun on Travis Burke, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.30 · Pick 170 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 150
Somehow Charles Demmings was still sitting there in slot 170, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.26 · Pick 207 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 192
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ephesians Prysock at the 207th overall pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · John Michael Gyllenborg · TE · rank 238
A wild overpay on John Michael Gyllenborg in Round 6, Pick 30, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jaren Kanak · TE · rank 236
A conviction pick on Jaren Kanak at the 220th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 239
Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 227 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 250
They paid up for Eli Heidenreich at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Adam Randall · RB · rank 281
They reached into another round for Adam Randall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.33 · Pick 249 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 355
Eric Gentry in pick No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.34 · Pick 250 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 267
Logan Taylor in slot 250 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · J. Michael Sturdivant · WR · rank 283
This one needs a full-page explanation: J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 256, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Micah Morris · OG · rank 325
A big swing on Micah Morris at slot 257, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
