Boards are made to be trusted, and the Dolphins shredded theirs for Eric Gentry. He came off 125 spots early, and the room will hear about it. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that.
Nice patience on Olaivavega Ioane, who had no business lasting to the 30th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 45th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Keionte Scott is a better player than slot 75 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 87 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Eli Stowers in Round 3, Pick 28 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ted Hurst in pick 94 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Michael Trigg in No. 130. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Drew Allar at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Eric Gentry at the 227th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
