If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Eric Gentry at the 202nd pick is 150 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Landing Lance that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Moore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Jake Slaughter, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach for Ted Hurst in pick No. 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Keionte Scott at the 90th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A real head-scratcher, Michael Trigg in pick 94 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Devin Moore, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Bryce Lance in the 130th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Drew Allar in Round 5, Pick 11; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Taylen Green at No. 152, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jeff Caldwell at pick No. 201 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eric Gentry in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for John Michael Gyllenborg in pick 212, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Joshua Braun at slot 227 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Logan Taylor in the 236th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Micah Morris. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
