The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Terrion Arnold, the No. 22 name on the board, sitting there at pick 57 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Circle this one: Terrion Arnold at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christian Haynes slipping to Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Javon Bullard at slot 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than pick No. 124, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jonah Monheim in pick 174 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Theo Wease Jr. at par in the 175th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
