When a board-topper like Deontae Lawson slides to pick 133, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Spending an early pick on safety with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The cost of the Mukuba reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Andrew Mukuba at Round 2, Pick 32, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick No. 68, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Malachi Moore in the Round 3 slot leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots for later.
Deontae Lawson at pick 133 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Garrett Dellinger at the 255th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
