The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 124 on Braelon Allen a full 27 spots early. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Watson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Amarius Mims in pick No. 24, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than Payton Wilson at pick 56, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Davis at slot 87 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 24, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Javon Baker in No. 174, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Myles Jones at the 212th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Nathaniel Watson in No. 245, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
