The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Moore left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, with JT Tuimoloau leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jabbar Muhammad in the 34th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Evan Stewart in Round 2, Pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Josh Conerly Jr. in pick No. 61, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Oscar Delp in slot 66 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Nicholas Singleton went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Luke Lachey enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 91. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Malachi Moore at the 98th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Shemar Turner in pick 112. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
