The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jalon Walker fell into the 106th overall pick. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In the end it comes back to Travis Hunter, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Wyatt Milum in No. 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Isaiah Bond higher than pick No. 48, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Walter Nolen reach the 79th pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nick Emmanwori at Round 3, Pick 16 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
