When a board-topper like DJ Giddens slides to slot 217, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at No. 38. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had TreVeyon Henderson higher than pick 69, and the running back fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in the 77th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Savion Williams slid further than he should have, and slot 106 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A running back of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 1 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
