Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quincy Riley got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at No. 240. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 15 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at No. 38 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 14, where Mike Green graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyleik Williams in the 75th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 193 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Quincy Riley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Trevor Etienne in the 257th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
