Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Dylan Fairchild, the No. 59 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 255.
The Barron pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a ballhawk on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
The board fumbled Wyatt Milum all the way to the 65th pick, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Bond at pick 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in the 96th overall pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jahdae Barron while clear needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 255 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
