A franchise passer in Nix headlines a F weekend for the Commanders.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Anim Dankwah at the Round 6 slot is 56 spots clear of where he belonged. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.

Bo Nix gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. Gray falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Laiatu Latu · DL-EDGE · rank 7
In the 10th pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.19 · Pick 19 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 17
In slot 19 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 31
In No. 28 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 61
A wild overpay on Zach Frazier in the 36th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 43
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 20. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 131
Ben Sinnott in pick No. 83 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 84
They read the board right and Gabriel Murphy was the payoff at No. 94. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 102
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 135
Theo Johnson at pick 103 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 124
Cedric Gray slid further than he should have, and pick No. 138 is lovely value for the linebacker. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Anim Dankwah · OT · rank 276
They reached into another round for Anim Dankwah, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
