Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Ladd McConkey in slot 40, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Adisa Isaac in pick 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Max Melton in pick No. 100 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in No. 102, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cole Bishop at Round 5, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They talked themselves into Jawhar Jordan at the 181st pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
