Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent slot 238 on Jalen Travis, a name most had 45 spots down the list.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Sawyer in slot 38. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Jonah Savaiinaea went about where he belonged in the 45th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 69 is lovely value for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason Taylor. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Noel at Round 4, Pick 4 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hollin Pierce in pick 114 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on DJ Giddens in Round 5, Pick 6, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Theo Wease Jr. at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Travis well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
