The trade table was where it all came apart. The Dolphins shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On value alone, Wiley makes the weekend a net positive. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at pick 35. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zach Frazier in No. 55 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Bralen Trice in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in pick No. 71. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in slot 124, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Josh Newton was the payoff at No. 137. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Kitan Oladapo at the 157th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Cornelius Johnson at pick 186 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Curtis Jacobs in slot 200 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jared Wiley at Round 7, Pick 19 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
