The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Sanders pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers in slot 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Quinyon Mitchell in the 37th pick, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 38; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Mahogany at the 69th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Darius Robinson at Round 4, Pick 5 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 142 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Roger Rosengarten was the payoff at pick No. 184. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in No. 226, where Jase McClellan graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
