For all the boxes ticked, the Packers skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman. The cost of the Capehart reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 20 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Mike Washington Jr. slipping to the 84th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
DeMonte Capehart at slot 120 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Charles Demmings is a better player than No. 160 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in pick 201, with Jeff Caldwell worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in pick No. 202: Taylen Green for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Thaddeus Dixon in the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
