Some picks age like wine; Tyreak Sapp at slot 195 will need to, sitting 79 spots clear of his grade. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The Singleton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Mason Graham all the way to the 28th pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Dylan Fairchild went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in slot 86, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in pick No. 97, and they pounced on premier safety value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jake Majors in Round 4, Pick 21 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Tez Johnson at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a running back like Nicholas Singleton reach slot 164 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Cody Simon still on the board at pick 190. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Tyreak Sapp in the 195th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
