Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Chris Paul Jr. got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at pick 190. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 55, where Tyler Warren graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Jake Majors at par in pick 86, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.

Circle this one: Andrew Mukuba at No. 123 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They jumped the gun on Connor Colby, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick No. 190 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jasheen Davis at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
