You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Eagles spent No. 121 on Smael Mondon Jr. while cornerback, safety and other spots sat unaddressed. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Mondon Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
Barrett Carter at the 39th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A clean, defensible pick in the 60th pick with a little surplus value in Bryson Nesbit. It fills a real need, too.
Ajani Cornelius in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Shemar Turner at the 89th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Joshua Gray in pick 91; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Antwane Wells Jr. at slot 103, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Smael Mondon Jr. at linebacker with cornerback, safety and other spots open.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 8, where Parker Brailsford graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
T.J. Sanders in pick No. 153 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 185th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jake Johnson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Jo'Quavious Marks at par in pick 206, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Sheppard in slot 217. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
