The rest of the league will want that one back. Tommy Eichenberg tumbling to the Patriots in slot 180 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Adding Brandon Aiyuk by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Troy Franklin at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Austin Booker in the 68th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cade Stover at the 103rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jarrian Jones in pick No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Tommy Eichenberg in Round 6, Pick 5, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Garret Greenfield at pick 218, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 231 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
