It is the swing that defines the weekend: Thor Griffith in the 240th pick, a good 55 spots before the room expected him. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Mickens to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The A.J. Brown pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Colston Loveland graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Jayden Higgins at par in the 69th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Charles Grant at slot 77 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in pick No. 96: Ozzy Trapilo for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jared Wilson at the 105th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Dorian Strong in Round 5, Pick 6, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Zeek Biggers at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R.J. Mickens at the 222nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
