The rest of the league will want that one back. Emery Jones Jr. tumbling to the Cowboys in No. 174 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at pick No. 44 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jack Bech at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in Round 5, Pick 11, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mello Dotson at No. 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dillon Gabriel in the 172nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 174 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at the 190th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Jack Kiser, who had no business lasting to pick No. 211. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
John Williams is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
