Washington Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In the 2nd pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 26
Troy Fautanu slid further than he should have, and the 36th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at No. 40, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 90
Marshawn Kneeland at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 136
A big swing on Theo Johnson at slot 101, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 94
Cam Hart is a better player than Round 4, Pick 3 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
