The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Nick Nash, 102 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
However the rest shakes out, Schwesinger at that price is a win they earned. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Booker went about where he belonged in pick No. 36. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach No. 67 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick 79 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Blake Miller. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Nick Nash in slot 138 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Seth McLaughlin at the 219th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Carson Schwesinger in the 220th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jalen Rivers at slot 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
