The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Ryan Flournoy, the No. 203 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Junior Colson in pick 56, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Wright a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jonah Elliss in pick No. 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaac Guerendo this early at No. 104. A need, and now a little less of one.
Joe Milton III at the 174th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Nathaniel Watson in Round 6, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Garret Greenfield slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Ryan Flournoy at pick 244 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
