There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Thor Griffith a full 126 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It bottoms out at a F.
That Neal pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake. The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 13th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 22 they get juice off the edge at fair value. More want than need.
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in No. 33, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They jumped the gun on Tyleik Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
