Daniels is the plan now, and the Cowboys grade out a D.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Charles Turner III in No. 231, a good 55 spots before the room expected him.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Getting Edwards where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · JC Latham · OT · rank 16
In pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 33
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 39 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 43
Payton Wilson is a better player than the 56th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 62
A slide stopped in slot 70, with Christian Haynes worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 123
A big swing on McKinnley Jackson at the 87th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 155
The board fumbled Cody Schrader all the way to Round 5, Pick 37, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 177
A linebacker of that caliber at the 213th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Charles Turner III · C · rank 286
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Charles Turner III. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Daijun Edwards · RB · rank 205
They barely believed it either: Daijun Edwards still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
