The Jordan Travis pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 77 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Legette pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
In No. 17 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in pick No. 48: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Edgerrin Cooper in slot 56, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Travis in pick 96 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Isaac Guerendo in No. 108 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Trevin Wallace at slot 174 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
