The Patriots bet big and early on Nick Nash, 145 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Landing Skattebo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
The veteran additions, Amarius Mims chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached a country mile for Aireontae Ersery at the Round 1 slot, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Derrick Harmon in the 44th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke Kandra in Round 3, Pick 12, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 80, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Carson Schwesinger at the 84th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Nash well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Michael Taaffe at Round 4, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nohl Williams. A minor need, but a need all the same.
