The Commanders bet big and early on Jawhar Jordan, 77 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Fuaga value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Caleb Williams went about where he belonged in the 2nd pick. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in No. 34: Taliese Fuaga for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 66; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 100th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalen McMillan at slot 102 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ben Sinnott at Round 5, Pick 3 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Moose Muhammad III at pick 180 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jawhar Jordan. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
