Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
Reaching for Tupuola-Fetui left real value on the table behind him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Latham.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Somehow JC Latham was still sitting there in the 34th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 47 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in Round 3, Pick 4, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in the 103rd pick: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had cheaper options than Kitan Oladapo at pick 137, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Layden Robinson at No. 193 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, KT Leveston a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
