Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent Round 4, Pick 27 on Max Llewellyn, a name the board had a full 24 spots lower.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Lance falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and A.J. Haulcy was the payoff at pick No. 58. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached a country mile for Max Llewellyn at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Bryce Lance slid further than he should have, and pick 133 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Beau Stephens in the 139th overall pick, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Aamil Wagner in No. 154 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Thaddeus Dixon at pick No. 209, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for Eli Heidenreich, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
