If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Eli Heidenreich at pick 201 is 38 spots clear of where he belonged.
That McNeil-Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
They liked Derrick Moore enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 52. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Germie Bernard in the 58th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 84 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Jude Bowry at Round 4, Pick 27 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Davison Igbinosun all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Zxavian Harris at the 138th pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Oscar Delp higher than the 139th overall pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Eli Heidenreich in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
