The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 6 slot on Eli Heidenreich a full 32 spots early.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Lew value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all.
Dillon Thieneman in the 43rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
Connor Lew slipping to slot 92 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on De'Zhaun Stribling at Round 4, Pick 12, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jack Endries at pick No. 116 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A conviction pick on DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Kaytron Allen in the 133rd pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for Max Llewellyn in No. 138, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Charles Demmings in Round 4, Pick 39 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Eli Heidenreich at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
