When the story of this class is written, it opens with Carson Steele at the 180th pick, a reach of 114 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Put together, it is a D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 17 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper DeJean at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ladd McConkey well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 66 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 100th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cole Bishop in Round 4, Pick 2, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at pick 139, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Carson Steele at pick No. 180 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
