Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Corleone: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bengals watched Dontay Corleone slide 43 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The cost of the Curry reach is exactly the players who went right after him. It is not that Curry is a bad player; it is that the Bengals had louder needs to answer first. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In pick No. 25 they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chris Johnson · CB · rank 32
Value with a capital V on Chris Johnson in the 41st overall pick, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Derrick Moore · DE-EDGE · rank 62
A reach for Derrick Moore in pick 54; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 50
They barely believed it either: A.J. Haulcy still on the board at slot 72. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 131
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caden Curry at edge rusher with tight end, quarterback and other spots open.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
Dontay Corleone at No. 110 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · De'Zhaun Stribling · WR · rank 111
They will replay De'Zhaun Stribling at Round 4, Pick 29 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.8 · Pick 189 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 173
A tidy bit of business in the 189th pick, where Aamil Wagner graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.18 · Pick 199 · Anez Cooper · OG · rank 186
Nice patience on Anez Cooper, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.5 · Pick 221 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 218
Jeremiah Wright in pick 221 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
R7.10 · Pick 226 · Keyshaun Elliott · LB · rank 219
Keyshaun Elliott at slot 226 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
