Boards are made to be trusted, and the Eagles shredded theirs for Eric Watts. He came off 58 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at slot 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Darius Robinson at pick No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at the 39th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Good price on Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 3, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Christian Haynes went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Max Melton in slot 78 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaden Hicks slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
A want over a need in No. 103: Cedric Gray adds a linebacker while running back and tight end keeps waiting.
The board had cheaper options than Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 1, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Tykee Smith at par in the 161st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Jefferson a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Myles Cole at pick No. 171, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Eric Watts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ro Torrence in pick No. 180. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in slot 210, where Joe Milton III graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Cornelius Johnson in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Myles Harden at pick 240 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in No. 246, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
