Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Golday got past him. The Jaguars do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Reaching for Halton left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, Payton Wilson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 19. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Jake Golday all the way to No. 92, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Bryce Lance went about where he belonged in the 93rd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Gracen Halton at the 108th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Devin Moore was still sitting there in pick No. 111, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Connor Lew at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tacario Davis slipping to pick 116 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid up for Harold Perkins Jr. at slot 124 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zxavian Harris. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Isaiah World is a better player than No. 156 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Demond Claiborne at pick 164 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Dae'Quan Wright at par in slot 180, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jeff Caldwell in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
