Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

Future B-

The Eagles ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The Duke reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That Fautanu pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 26
Troy Fautanu at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 58
They paid sticker price for Ricky Pearsall in the 59th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in the 88th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · James Williams · S · rank 120
A tidy bit of business in No. 128, where James Williams graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 154
Xavier Thomas at pick No. 160 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 191
Value said wait; Steele Chambers in slot 170 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 196
They talked themselves into Jaylan Ford at the 171st pick, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Steal is underselling it; Kitan Oladapo at pick 178 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · M.J. Devonshire · CB · rank 182
A tidy little value on M.J. Devonshire in pick No. 189, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 195
They robbed the room for Daequan Hardy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Khalid Duke · DE-EDGE · rank 270
Khalid Duke at No. 240 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
