They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They are betting Mahogany proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Landing Dixon that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Jonathon Brooks in the 43rd overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Austin Booker in slot 67 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Devontez Walker in Round 3, Pick 10 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Mahogany this early at the 78th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khyree Jackson at pick 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tommy Eichenberg in No. 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason McCormick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in pick No. 222, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
