After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That Williams pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at Round 2, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kiran Amegadjie at the 67th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 78, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at the 100th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Mason McCormick at slot 139, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Dallin Holker at par in pick No. 152, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah Williams at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
