The rest of the league will want that one back. DJ James tumbling to the Packers in No. 126 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They will need Hartman to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 41st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for DJ James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams slid further than he should have, and pick 139 is lovely value for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Sam Hartman in No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
