Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys won the night they stopped Stutsman from sliding. Grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Danny Stutsman sat on the board until the 170th pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.

If Nelson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 54
The board had cheaper options than Tyleik Williams at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Dylan Sampson · RB · rank 43
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 17 with a little surplus value in Dylan Sampson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 44
Tyler Warren slid further than he should have, and the 58th overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 118
A wild overpay on Jack Nelson in pick No. 65, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jordan Burch · DE-EDGE · rank 110
Jordan Burch at No. 76 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 71
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Andrew Mukuba at slot 81. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Savion Williams · WR · rank 112
They left a pile of value on the table to take Savion Williams this early at the 89th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.1 · Pick 102 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 129
Domani Jackson at pick 102 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 105
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.18 · Pick 119 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 99
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in slot 119, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 113
Cam Skattebo in Round 5, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.15 · Pick 152 · Shemar Turner · DL · rank 169
They went early on Shemar Turner in No. 152, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.23 · Pick 160 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 210
Value said wait; DJ Campbell in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 208
This one needs a full-page explanation: Miles Frazier in pick No. 168, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 86
Circle this one: Danny Stutsman at the 170th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Tonka Hemingway · DT · rank 225
They reached a country mile for Tonka Hemingway at the 187th pick, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 211
Jared Wilson at Round 6, Pick 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 275
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Trevor Etienne · RB · rank 201
Taking Trevor Etienne in pick No. 247 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
